June’s Value and Guiding Principle

We value and promote the female perspective by respecting its distinct needs, creating safe and gender-responsive environments, and celebrating the female experience.

We would like to recognize Cynthia Q this month of Honouring the Female Spirit. She was awarded the Do the Right Thing Award this past January, she was 1 out of 10 chosen for the month out of over 100 nominated. Cynthia’s Spirited Girls teacher Ms. Jamie McCann nominated her. In Jamie’s nomination, she wrote – “Since her arrival over 14 months ago, she has improved her attendance, grades and joined Student Government; where she is now SGA President! (she went from almost no speaking to speaking in front of the entire center!) She not only has done the right thing for herself but also for others, advocating for activities and programs around the center that increase student investment and engagement. Whether she is making a flyer, editing a speech or planning an event she uses her own time and creativity to make it special. In class, she motivates other by seeking excellence turning in precise work and then offering to assist others. She also sets a good example for other students, using positive language around the center, pleasure reading when no task is placed in front of her and honoring pace’s policies and procedures.”

Cynthia has now been with us for almost 2 years and will be successful transition to High School in August 2018. This past week on Wednesday, June 14th all the students that were awarded got invited to a Do the Right Thing Banquet where the theme was “Honouring Those in Blue”. Cynthia’s family, Ms. Jamie McCann and Sherry Thompson Giordano, our Executive Director, all attended this banquet to help thank Cynthia for being an amazing representative for PACE Miami. PACE Center for Girls Miami is proud to see Cynthia grow and we cannot wait to see what the future has in store for this bright young girl!

It was a rainy Saturday however; the venue was beautiful and we would like to thank our supporters who still came out and joined us for some shopping and sipping champagne at the event. Kendra Scott informed us we raised more than $420 in those 3 hours. We would like to give a big thank you and shout out to Kendra Scott for hosting this party for us. Why I Love PACE…..

Why I Love PACE… By Yahima S.

Why I Came to PACE & What I first learned

When I first heard the word PACE, I misunderstood and thought they told me the school was called peace. Little did I know I was going to end up finding peace with our Pace Miami walls and in myself. The first person I met was Ms. Lauren, our Program Assistant, and as soon as I came in her kindness made me feel as if I belonged here. Then I got to meet Ms. Evelyn, our Community Coordinator, she made me feel safe enough to open to her about why I would come to Pace Miami. We talked about my many absences and the reasoning behind them. Plus, we spoke about how I believe in myself which I was never asked before coming to PACE Miami.

When I arrived the first day everyone was very nice to every single PACE girl asked me how I was doing, which I had never experience before since I am shy and normally keep to myself. But at PACE Miami I felt happy and was welcomed with open arms and made new friends. I knew this wasn’t just any school.

Things I will Take away from PACE Miami

What I will take away from PACE Miami is that no matter where life may take me if I can be strong, believe in myself and not let others doubt get to me I can reach the stars and achieve every dream I have. I will also take away the kindness and love I was shown here I will try to express that same warmth was shown here with everyone. I will take away courage, strength, happiness and most importantly the power to believing in myself and where it can take me in life!

PACE Miami’s First Blog

PACE Miami is starting a BLOG. We would like to update our PACE supporters on what is going on at our center more frequently and help more people get involved.

PACE Miami Update:

Today we would like to share with you what happened this past week. We are excited to say that PACE Miami was live on the radio with Tropical Currents on WLRN on Tuesday, May 30th. Our Executive Director, Sherry Thompson Giordano, our PACE Alumni, Shaela Freeman and our past chair, Judge Lester Langer were incredible on the air hosted by Bonnie Berman. Sherry spoke about the growth of PACE Center for Girls Inc. and its presence in Miami. Shaela gave the audience insight on attending PACE Miami as a student and how it has helped her grow as a college student and working for the Marlins. Judge Lester Langer shifted the conversation in talking about how girls get to PACE Miami from the Department of Juvenile Justice and how we prevent girls from going into the system.
